When Autumn Leaves Begin to Fall…

The warm summer days linger, but the sweet smell of Autumn is in the air.  In the Pacific Northwest, we are already wearing sweaters in the evening and craving soups over salads.

This is a time to prepare for winter nesting – the comfort of a kitchen filled with the smells of home-cooked meals; a living room that invites you to put up your feet at the end of the day and spend the evening enjoying a good book, a favorite television program, or a lively conversation.

Fall is when you begin to imagine what your holidays will be like.  Will you host friends and family this year?  Will you fill your home with the laughter and warmth that comes from sharing time with the people you love?

Will the heart of your home – the kitchen – welcome you to prepare a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner?  Will your dining area be an open invitation to enjoy holiday meals with friends and family?  Will you fall asleep each night in the soothing atmosphere of a tranquil bedroom and rise each morning to prepare for your day in a bathroom that delights your senses?

Will you leave the house every morning knowing that you need not brave the wind, rain, snow, or ice because your car is snugly parked in the garage awaiting your arrival?

Fall is a season to prepare; a time to pave the way to a relaxing, nourishing, and heartwarming Winter.  We, at Habitat for Your Sanity know that organizing does not have to be an overwhelming chore; that creating physical space in your life for what is really important is one of the most freeing things you can do for yourself.  Every magazine and piece of paper you recycle; every book you donate to the library; every knick-knack and piece of clothing you release to a new owner creates a space in your life for new insight, energy, joy, and experience.

This year, enjoy your Fall and luxuriate in your Winter.  It is time to be good to yourself.
